Come “Put yourself in the picture”!
The Artwalk season starts with a Launch Party at the Velvet Olive on Thursday, June 2 at 5pm. Come join the party and get all the details about the upcoming Red Deer Artwalk Festival. Prizes and fun are on the menu!
Artists-About-Town will feature artists demonstrating their work, and inviting all passersby to come out to the festival. Artists-About-Town will start Saturday, June 11 at the Red Deer Market and continue throughout the following week at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, City Hall Park, Veterans Park and the Recreation Centre. Our Facebook page will post details regarding the artists and times as they come available.
On Thursday, June 16, join the Artwalk Amble Gallery Tour. This evening gallery tour will take you on a guided visit to a number of the City’s art galleries. The tour starts and ends at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) and finishes with a private reception. One lucky person will win a door prize draw of a $200 purchase voucher, to be spent on art at any of the participating galleries. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for those under 13, and may be purchased at the MAG, Sunworks Home & Garden store and Gallery IS. Our bus tour partners are the Harris-Warke Gallery, Gallery IS, MAG and Voyageur Art & Tile.
On the 17th, our fourth annual Friday Night Films will showcase short independent works by students in RDC’s Motion Picture Arts program. This event takes place at our traditional festival site in Rotary Recreation Park near 47th Ave. and 44th St. This event will run from 7:30 – 9:00 in the big tent. It’s totally free, including the popcorn, but be sure to bring your lawn chairs!
The grand event, Artwalk Festival day, will be in the park on Saturday, June 18 from 9-5. Enjoy art demonstrations, interactive activities and live music in a beautiful park setting at this free community all-ages event. This year, feature artists Betty Schnell and Deborah Petersen will be painting and making glass beads, respectively. Demonstration artists will be Sasha Grinnell helping make masks and Brenda Smith creating henna tattoos. Artwalk’s extensive Art Market, where visitors can buy exclusive original art, showcases the work of local and regional artists. Our stage will be alive with the music of Randi Boulton, Donna Durand, The Eclectics, The Neopolitins, Paeton Cameron Band, Lisa Heinrichs and Ross Stafford.

Performances are appropriate for the entire family and include comedians, jugglers, stilt-walkers, face-painters and more. Visitors can buy handmade arts and crafts along Artisan Avenue.
